kinsale, VIRGINIA
This minimalist modern house by ArchitectureFirm sits within a family compound on an almost completely flat site near the Potomac river. The owners hired Grounded for strategic site grading and design to consider the house site and elevation for views and longevity.
Grounded reviewed data for the region's projected 100-year sea level rise and determined that the building should be raised, given its coastal environment and inherent vulnerability. The site will respond to the minimalist architecture with clean lines, swaths of massed native plantings and a small lawn transitioning to the native pine barren forest. Program elements include an outdoor shower, outdoor sitting area, fire pit, site walls and connections to the main residence.
